grounded in contemplative practice
for a peaceful, just, & sustainable society
Dana from Santikaro's retreats and teaching is our primary source of income. So far, it has been sufficient for living & operating expenses, as well as financing the mortgage taken out to purchase the 70 acres on which Liberation Park lives.
Building projects -- such as caretaker's cottage, water & plumbing, septic system, and driveways -- have been financed as funds came in. The first hermitage was financed with special help from Tender Shoot of Joy. The Guest House project, finished in 2017, required a fund raising campaign.
Fund raising for the Solar Array (12.0 kW) to supply most of our electrical needs has been a success. Cost will be about $35,000. We received a grant of $6,200 from RENEW Wisconsin and have been approved for incentive funds of $4,000 by Focus on Energy. Liberation Park supporters have supplied almost all of the rest. As of now, we need about $1,000 more for slightly increased costs. Installation should begin in April, once the frost comes out of the ground (delayed by current cold snap and heavy snow).
Our next project is Landscaping and a Rain Garden around the Guest House to prevent against erosion in heavy rains and for the well-being of visitors. We are working with a consultant experienced in local species. Costs are as yet unknown. Volunteer labor may be needed.
As we continue making the property inhabitable for retreatants & residents we hope for your skills, know how, and labor in the following areas:
- landscaping around new buildings
- environmental restoration
- regular cleaning and upkeep of buildings
- carpentry (the more skilled the better)
- orchard restoration
- grounds clean up and maintenance
- alternative energy systems
